- Andrew Ku - CEO and Co-Founder

Andrew Ku is the CEO and Co-Founder of Nurien Software. Andrew Ku co-founded Nurien Software with Taehoon Kim and currently oversees management and general operations at the company, including its business operations, sales and finances. Prior to assuming head of Nurien Software, Andrew founded Upstream Networks Inc., a New York-based developer and supplier of game service solutions. From 2001 to 2003, he helped IT companies venture overseas with his consultation service. Notably, he played an instrumental part in bringing the world’s first 32-bit mobile game device GP32 by GamePark to the North American and European markets. Andrew has also lectured on Internet contents trends, solution development, urban planning and urban environment as an adjunct professor at Sookmyung Women’s University and a guest lecturer at Yonsei University. In 2003, he was invited to speak at Harvard University on an urban planning project.
Andrew received his Bachelor of Architecture at Cornell University and Master’s degrees in Architecture (March II) and Urban Planning (MUP) at Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Taehoon Kim is Co-Founder and President of Nurien Software, a leading developer and operator of 3D social networking and online games company. Taehoon is the visionary behind Nurien’s innovative product system, merging the social dynamics of Web 2.0 with the appeal of massively multiplayer online games. Previously, Taehoon served as the President of Realtime Worlds Korea, the Korean branch of UK-based software technology and online entertainment company founded by David Jones, the creator of Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings. Prior to Realtime Worlds Korea, Taehoon served at Samsung Electronics’ New Business Development team, where he spearheaded the creation of smartphone based mobile gaming platform for the global market.Taehoon holds a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and M.Eng. in Operations Research and Information Engineering from Cornell University.

As General Manager for Nurien Software’s U.S. business, Jack brings a thorough understanding of the online game market along with leadership experience to the Nurien team. Prior to joining Nurien, Jack was both Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of OGPlanet, a pioneering game portal that brought to North America a series of virtual economy massively multiplayer online games. Jack was responsible for the overall creative vision and general management of the strategy, marketing, community, and production teams at OGPlanet. Previous to founding OGPlanet, Jack worked as a director and creative consultant for the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning directing collective The Saline Project. Other past experience includes work in script development, freelance screenwriting, and producing numerous documentaries for clients such as MGM, Sony/Columbia Tristar, and New Line Cinema.Jack holds a B.A. in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University and was an MFA candidate at Art Center College of Design before leaving to found OGPlanet.

Patrick joined NEA in 2004 and became Partner in 2007. Patrick focuses on Consumer, Internet and Mobile investments across stage. He is a director of Loopt, GoodGuide and Realtime Worlds, co-led NEA's investment in 23andMe, and is actively involved with Nurien, Xoom and the firm's venture growth activities. Prior to joining NEA, Patrick helped to grow ZEFER, an Internet services firm (acquired by NEC) to more than $100 million in annual revenues and more than 700 people across six global offices. Prior to ZEFER, Patrick was with McKinsey & Company, where he specialized in hardware, software, and services companies.Patrick received a joint JD-MBA degree from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School, where he served as an Editor of the Harvard Law Review. Patrick was a Commonwealth Scholar at Oxford University, where he earned a Master of Science degree and won both class prizes for Best Dissertation and Best Overall Performance. Patrick earned his A.B. degree at Harvard University in Environmental Science. He is a member of the New York and Massachusetts bars, and a member of the Committee to Visit Harvard College.

Feng co-founded Northern Light Venture Capital in 2005, a China focused fund. He has more than 15 years of technical and managerial experience in the computer, communication and data networking industries. In 1997, Feng co-founded NetScreen Technologies, and served as the Vice President of Engineering, Chief Strategy Officer and Board member. NetScreen went public on NASDAQ in 2001 and was acquired by Juniper Networks in 2004 for $4 billion. From 2004 to 2005, Feng served as VP of Corp. Strategy at Juniper Networks. Feng was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2002 and the Innovator of the Year award in 2003. Prior to founding NetScreen, Feng worked at Intel Corp. Feng holds a MS degree in computer engineering from the University of Southern California, a MS degree in electronic engineering from Tsinghua University, and a MBA from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania. He also holds five U.S. patents in computer system architecture and IC design. Feng serves on the Board of Directors of Hua Yuan Science and Technology Association (HYSTA), and is a board member of the Tsinghua University Foundation.

Dick began his Venture career in 1969 as a General Partner with Arthur Rock and Co. After 9 years in General Management - Manager of Financial Planning at the Kroger Co. and Investment Management - Executive Vice President at Gardner & Preston Moss Company. Since co-founding NEA in 1978, he has been involved in 8 companies what have grown from start-up or near start-up stage to in excess of $1 billion in market value, including Juniper Networks, Ascend Communications, (acquired by Lucent), ImmuneX (acquired by Amgen), Macromedia (acquired by Adobe), and Dallas Semiconductor (acquired by Maxim Integrated products). He was the first investor to have invested in the Ethernet at 3Com with Bob Metcalfe and an early investor with Dr. John Simpson in balloon angioplasty at Advanced Cardiovascular Systems (acquired by Eli Lilly) as well as Forethought (acquired by Microsoft) the company that originated PowerPoint. He is still working on start-ups - Financial Engines, Force10 Networks, MaxiScale, Xoom, Tabula, Visual Edge, Zhone and KOR. He recently joined the Board of CITIC Pharmaceuticals in China. Dick is also a director of Silicon Valley Bank.Dick has received four Lifetime Achievement Awards - including the National Venture Capital Association (he was Chairman and President 1992-93). The University of California - Haas School of Business, the Silicon Valley Deloitte Technology Fast 50 program and the Red Herring Magazine Award. He received a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Science in History from Northwestern University.
Dick and his wife, Pamela are noted collectors of Media Art, and founded the New Art Trust to foster best practices in the field in 1997. They received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2006. They enjoy hiking, travelling, tennis and swimming and are currently residing in Shanghai, China, where Dick is assisting NEA’s China practice.

Jeffrey manages the financial, legal, and administrative aspects of Northern Light, as well as provides support for the US development activities of the firm and its portfolio from his joining in 2005. Previously, Jeffrey was a Strategic Marketing Manager at Agilent Technologies Wireless Semiconductor Division, supporting 3gpp RF modules. Prior to that, he served as Director of Business Development at Wavics Inc., a 3G wireless RFIC company that was acquired by Agilent in 2005. And before Wavics, Jeffrey was a founding Partner of Newton Technology Partners, an early stage cross border venture capital firm based in Seoul, Korea. Jeffrey holds a MBA from the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania and also a BA in Economics from Harvard University.

Richard Wolpert has been a pioneer in the fields of consumer digital media and entertainment for the last 20 years. In 1994, he founded Chance Technologies, Inc., a technology development and investment portfolio focused on technologically driven entertainment ventures including RealNetworks, GameSpy, GameFly, Smilebox, Universal Audio, Zetta Systems, Digital Map Products, and Goodmail Systems. In addition to managing Chance Technologies, Richard serves as an Executive Strategic Advisor to Rob Glaser, Chairman and CEO of RealNetworks. Richard also serves as a Venture Advisor to Accel Partners helping them expand their portfolio in the area of consumer digital media.
Richard served as the Chief Strategy Officer of RealNetworks from 2000-2005. During this time Richard lead RealNetworks’ transition from a technology company to a consumer services/digital media company by operating the RealNetworks’ Consumer businesses and growing those businesses from a run rate of under $100M to profitable businesses with run rates of more than $250M in under two years. Richard also served as president of Disney Online from 1996-1998, where he was responsible for the business and creative strategy for the company. During his tenure, Richard oversaw all aspects of Disney Online’s Internet initiatives including the Web’s most popular family Web site, Disney.com, as well as the development and successful operation of The Disney Store Online, and Disney’s Daily Blast. From 1984-1994 Richard founded and developed several thriving technology companies including After Hours Software, Bit Jugglers, Mind Over Technology, among others. Many of these companies have since successfully merged with, or were acquired by industry giants such as Adobe Systems, Compaq and Knowledge Universe. Richard began his career at Apple Computer in 1984, where he was involved in the early development of the Macintosh.
Richard is a board member for the LA Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America where Richard is the Founder of CCFA’s camps. Richard also serves on the board of the UCLA School of Theater Film and Television. Richard earned his degree in Math and Computer Science at the University of California, Los Angeles.

As Vice President of Globespan, Eugene focuses on investments in Communications, Internet/Infrastructure, and Systems and Peripherals. Based in Palo Alto, he also leads the firm's effort to help portfolio companies expand their businesses into Korea. Eugene is a board member of Challenge Games, Nurien Software, Strata8 and Wirefree Partners. He is also currently a board observer of Amalfi, Analogix, Hatteras Networks, Quartics, and Sonics. Prior to joining Globespan, Eugene was in the Corporate Development Group at Cisco Systems where he focused on venture investments and acquisitions in the video, consumer, wireless and optics markets. Eugene also worked on strategic planning for emerging businesses within Cisco and as a product manager in the Metro Ethernet business unit. Prior to Cisco, Eugene worked for Mercer Management Consulting and spent time at a number of Internet start-ups.
Eugene earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematical and Computational Science, with honors, from Stanford University and holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as the Vice President of the Korean IT Network (KIN). Eugene is striving to play bogey golf and for semi-proficiency in foreign languages.
